I think they're all wrong. It should be either 'forming a child's character' or 'forming children's characters'.

That means that 'forming child's character' also works? No. You do need an article: 'forming a child's character' or 'forming the child's character'. The article refers to the child (singular/countable),.

If 'character' is an abstract concept you don't need an article 'a', right? That means that 'forming child's character' also works and we are falling in the same predicament, aren't we?

On second thoughts, B does work. If you're viewing 'character' as an abstract concept, you could say 'forming children's character'.
