what does 도대채 mean?
and when would you use it? examples are much appreciated. thank you!

We say it in place of "on earth", "the *ell".
What on earth is that all about? 그게 도대체 무슨 말이야?
What the *ell are you talking about? 도대체 무슨 얘길 하는 거야?
I've worked on it by myself, but I have no idea the *ell how to do this.
나 혼자 어떻게 좀 해보려고 했는데, 이거 도대체 어떻게 하는 건지 모르겠어.
S/he is my friend, but sometimes I don't know what the *ell is going on in his/her head.
쟤 내 친군데, 가끔 쟤 머리 속에 도대체 뭐가 들어있는지 나도 모르겠어.
이게 다 뭐야, 도대체가? What the *ell is this all?
(도대체가 이게 다 뭐야? is also possible)
너 정신이 있어, 없어? 도대체가! Are you insane?!?!?!
