Further to previous answers, we as society judge others on appearances. "Clothes make the man" can mean what personal possession you have, how good looking you are, how much money you have etc. If you have none of these you are not worth listening to and are unimportant. As Blitzy says, sad but true.

In Twain's time the gulf between rich and poor was very obvious in America. People were judged by the way they dressed and the richer they were, the more power they had. Nowadays the dress code has become more casual for everyone unless you are a king, queen, president or head of state.

the dress is refered to the culture of the people and there religion is one of there traditional so no body from another culture can suggest new kind to the others and i think in any place in the world there is some person like to be exotic to prove there self as will as some people who sell there body for the pleasure this is exist every where and no body can say this is true so the kind of dress is traditinal culture and here we talk about the men who hide his pesonal under his dresses

interesting question coming from egypt, where women has to dress decently (as in any muslim countries,. I recently contacted an iranian woman who has a degree on islamic theology and she was telling me that qoran is full of silly precepts, specially related to women. I donot intend to disturb you, but her opinions are quite interesting to me, as she is an "alim" and could be ayatollah if man and orthodox. Anthropology shows that most of those people living without dresses - and that have been anhiliated during last times - used to be more human that the late dressed ones. So, answering your question, maybe dress "unmakes" the man/woman.
