what is diffrence in pit , sump and basin?

Hi Rhem. Meaning of Pit: A large cavity or hole in the ground, either natural or artificial; a cavity in the surface of a body; an indentation Sump= a low-lying place, such as a pit, that receives drainage. or a cesspool/ hole at the lowest point of a mine shaft into which water is drained. Basin= a natural depression in the surface of the land often with a lake at the bottom of it.
