Why is 고 in this sentance? 저희 어머니는 건강에 좋다고 이 야채 수프를 자주 만드십니다 Why is 고 in this sentance? 저희 어머니는 건강에 좋다고 이 야채 수프를 자주 만드십니다. This whole little structure is a little confusing 건강에 좋다고 이.... I assume 이 means this here but I thought 고 means 'and' so i dont see why you would use it here?

고 is also used as an indirect quotation form, you can take it as a conjunction that makes a gerund *phrase. In English : My mother often makes this vegetable soup, saying it's good for health. *added
