confidant: a person, esp a man, to whom private matters are confided
conidante: a person, esp a woman, to whom private matters are confided

Both have the same meaning: "one whom you confide in".
Confidante is a female.
Confidant is a male.
Are you also thinking of "confident" (the state of being certain)?
