what's the difference between overseas and abroad?

"overseas" is another continent. Sometimes it is used for any foreign country. But the word literally means something more distant.
Asia - America or America - Europe
"abroad" is another place. Another (distant) city, another province or country. But you can use it for other continents, too.
Chengdu - Beijing
China - Thailand or China - Mongolia
China - Australia
