point blank range Why does "point blank range" mean near distance ? I guess the range is similar to distance. but Why does "point blank" means "near" .

It's a term from ballistics, the study of how bullets leave firearms (guns, pistols, rifles, etc.). It means the gun was very near the target. You can find details and an interesting history of the term here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-blank_range
