A comment about the wording of your question: You wrote: I would like to know the differences between the word of anyhow and anyway. Correcton: I would like to know the difference between the words anyhow and anyway. This is a good question and the answer is even more interesting. The words "anyway and anyhow" are called 'discourse markers'. Discourse means language that is longer than a sentence, a little bit like the word discussion, but it can also refer to written language. In English there are many discourse markers. They show the connection between what a speaker is saying and what has already been said or what is going to be said. Discourse markers can also be used to indicate what the speaker thinks about what he/she is saying or what others have said. Discourse markers are always follwed by a statement or question and they usually come at the beginning of a clause (subject + verb). Here is a short list of discourse markers: - talking about ... - speaking of ... - regarding ... - with reference to ... - as far as ... is concerned - as for ... - on the other hand ... - while ... - whereas ... - however ... - nevertheless ... - nonetheless ... - even so ... - mind you ... - yet ... - still ... - in spite of this ... - of course ... - certainly ... - on the contrary ... - by the way ... - incidentally ... - firstly ... / secondly ... / etc - furthermore ... - moreover ... - in general ... - for instance ... - for example ... - therefore ... - actually ... - now ... - in other words ... - I think ... / I feel ... / I guess ... / I believe ... - actually ... - in fact ... - in conclusion ... - anyhow ... - anyway ... AND THAT'S A SHORT LIST OF DISCOURSE MARKERS - WOW... Anyhow and Anyway These two discourse markers mean approximately the same thing. They are used to say "What has been said before doesn't matter - the main point is as follows (what I say or write next). e.g., I'm not sure what time I will arrive, anyway/anyhow I won't be late. e.g., A bug bit you in the eye, anyway/anyhow the swelling and pain was gone within 24 hours. e.g., The car accident was bad, anyway/anyhow fortunately no one was badly injured. e.g., Maybe you were hoping for a short answer to your question, anyhow/anyway this is the naswer you got. I hope my answer has helped:)
