저는 일본사람인데, 한국말로도 자주 브르는 노래를 18번이라고 해요!? 몰랐어요. 재미있네요.
18번이라는 표현의 유래에 대해선 설이 몇 가지 있답니다.
그 중에서도 가장 유력한 설은 일본 에도시대에 한 유면한 가부키(歌舞伎)배우가 그 집에 대대 전해져온 연목들 중에서 특히 잘 하는 18종류를 골라 발표한 것부터 18번이라는 표현을 하게 되었다는 말입니다.

There are several opinions for the origin of that expression. Among them, the most likely one is this:
During Edo(Tokugawa) era, there was a very famous kabuki actor. He chose 18 programs that are performed most frequently and skillfully from the many kabuki programs that had been descended in his family.
