Fall and Autumn has the same mean for a season, but which is the most common in English? Why? Gracias!

"fall" is American, "autumn" is British. "gotten" is American, and there are many other small differences, currently my favorite is "mobile" and "cell phone". Americans say "mobile" like Mo-bull and to hear it spoken like Mo-byle seems odd and yet it's all too familiar but we just call it a cell phone, until we have begun using i-phones, i-pods, i-pads, and the language will never keep pace with technology. Good Q.
