“Made in the shade” is a common idiom and refers to a situation of comfort, success, easy living, or general well-being. The origin is unknown, perhaps from a nursery rhyme, “ice-cold lemonade, made in the shade, stirred with a spade, by an old maid.”

the guy doesn't have to do anything. he is living a carefree life in which everything is done for him. (like someone sitting in the shade enjoying the weather without having to endure the hot sun)
