I ask this silly question but Frozen_Scud has the guilt... Why do round pizzas come in square boxes? Why most of sewer manholes are round? Why all the round things are round and square are square? A circle is the most material efficient shape. Round pizza = less pizza = savings. The square box is an inefficient design so that it looks like a good deal. A round manhole cover cannot fall through the hole, whereas a square cover can. And round shapes/tunnels are stronger, efficient. Roundness or curves are aesthetically pleasing. Square or blocky shapes can represent power, an imposing authority, excess....

1st easyer to take out the pizza from square box. 2nd try cutting square and circle shapes. In what case you would be left with less unused material? Though you may find square pizzas too.
