2. To take the place of; supplant.
3. To discharge from an office or position.
Meanings of replace
1. To put back into a former position or place.
2. To take or fill the place of.
3. To be or provide a substitute for.
4. To pay back or return; refund.

To displace something means that you cannot find something. Replace means to put something back where it was originally.

displace is to lose the original position. when I moved to china I felt displaced. Misplaced means to lose something. replaced means to get back the same thing. i had to replace the statue because I broke the old one. i gave her money to replace her broken cellphone.
