If I just have an elementry to low-moderate knowledge of the language, I would rather read a book, because then I can go at my own speed. If I am high-moderate to fairly proficient, I would rather watch a movie. At that point, I can keep up.

I love both! They offer a great number of methods to deal with your vocabulary but the most useful are always reading books and watching movies or a TV series. It's really hard to choose because we can't live without either....Would you recommend to us some movies and books which are enjoyable and to some extent easier to understand? :) I guess Little Women is really a good read for beginners! In fact, anything enjoyable will do! Like listening to English songs.... :)

In my humble opinion, are complementary. I mean, it is really interesting practice your reading skills reading a good book but it is also really usefull watch English programs on the TV, watch films in English (you can add subtitles) and that helps you to improve listening and speaking skills!! It works!!!
