'As well' means 'also'. 'As well as' means 'in addition to'. He has a car, and a motorbike as well. He has a motorbike as well as a car.

'As well' normally ends a sentence or clause whereas 'as well as' introduces a further subject. Moreover, 'as well' is most likely to be used in relation to something someone else has said: 'I want an ice cream.' 'I would like one as well.' 'I would like an ice cream as well as a drink.' This means I want both of these things. To use 'as well as' you need two items.
