Does “markdown” mean the “reduced part” off initial price?

Mark down does indeed mean the amount by which an original selling price is reduced

I was always confused with discounts in China. I think there an 80% discount means you pay 80% of the full price. In England an 80% discount means 80% off or an 80% markdown, so you pay 20% of the full price.
