I'm not sure if it is possible or not, but to help them be interested in what they are learning will be the most important thing. In my experience, I just couldn't focus on what I have no interest in and trying to concentrate on it was really stressful. On the other hand, things I loved to do, even if it was math or physics, I did it over and over just because it was funny and became somewhat overachieving student.
