I want to know what verb to use when asking my landlord not to charge me late fee because it happened because of a fraud, my rent check has been stolen and modified and withdrawn by someone I don't know.

I would recommend:
Please don't charge me a late fee. I've been a victim of fraud. Someone stole the rent check I was going to give you, altered it and cashed it.
You should probably get a police report and also get images of the cancelled check from your bank to confirm your story. If you show your landlord evidence to prove what happened and then ask nicely, you might be able to avoid having to pay a late fee.
