Someone just phoned, and if I say;
I was wondering how you are.
I’ve been wondering how you are.

Perhaps.
I'd say the first one is more immediate, like you were just _now_ wondering.
The second one tells me you've been wondering for a longer time. Like, you've been thinking for weeks about me ;)
