“Reading for content” seems like the right term to me: reading with the purpose of understanding the text and extracting as much meaning as possible from it without being distracted by formal/grammatical aspects. There is a book called “reading for meaning” but this phrase is less typical… “Reading for content” is sometimes contrasted with “reading for gist” (getting the general purpose of the text) and “reading for detail” (looking for a small amount of specific information in the text).
