Hi ☺️ , rather rephrase your sentences in such a manner: Was it silly of me to say that in front of the children ? This sentence suggests that that the children likely heard what you said , considering that you spoke in front of them - so you don’t have to mention “within the children’s hearing” , which is grammatically incorrect.
