Expository Essay
Use the Unit 1 foldable to write an essay that answers the Big Idea question, “How does where you live affect how you live?” Begin with an introduction.
Do you know "how does where you live affect how you live? "I’ve learned the relationship between environment and society in previous chapters. I would like to summarize them into three aspects to explain how where you live affects how you live.
First, the community size, or it’s safe to say the population of different communities, will deeply affect how you live.
In urban areas, the great population leads to many tall buildings close together. It’s always busy, noisy, and crowded. There are more work opportunities and more fun to see or to do. Stores and all kinds of services are convenient to get. But people would have less personal space. For instance, you can’t expect to pet a horse in an urban area. Furthermore, driving a car is not really necessary. People can travel by public transportation.
In suburban areas, houses and stores are further apart than in a city. It’s less crowded. People need vehicles to get around. In my opinion, a suburb is a “diluted urban area”. You can pretty much get the same things you can get in a city, just need to travel a little further or take more time to get what you want. But surely, living in a real house is way better than living in a condo.
In a rural community, the population can be really low. There are farms and ranches far apart. People there often have to drive a long way to another community to get their supplies. Your best friend might live ten miles away. But in another hand, people have huge personal space. You can pet a dragon in your barn, or kick off your own rock concert at the midnight, and no one would complain.
