Today is my birthday and it's been a great day so far. We had a fun morning together, and then I spent time with my great-grandma. As a tradition, she gave me a hard-boiled egg, watching me consume it. This may seem unusual, but it holds a special meaning. When my great-grandma was my age, she lived in a rural northern area. People struggled to provide for themselves. On one’s birthday, a single boiled egg was a luxurious treat, equivalent to today’s birthday cake, maybe more, because it was a yearly treat. This tradition has been passed down, reminding me to be grateful for what I have today.
