what does the phrase“as much as twelve feet in length”mean?
'A foot' is a unit of measurement from the imperial system, it is roughly equivalent to 30 centimetres in the metric system of measurement.
Most people in anglophone countries tend to use one or both of the imperial and metric systems to measure things.
Feet are often used to measure height or length, for example, I would say I am 6 feet tall (often expressed as '6ft').
