German doesn't have to be hard! 5 years of teaching experience with passion and fun Hallo and grüß dich! My name is Stephen, I’m originally from the USA, but I live in Austria. The German language has been my biggest passion since I started learning it at the age of 14. Back then, I learned on my own with books, but now I’ve completed a PhD in German studies and achieved C2 proficiency. If I can do it, nothing is stopping you either! Wherever you are in your learning journey, I’m confident that with me as your tutor, you’ll have both fun and success. I’ve been teaching German for seven years now and multiple American universities and languages schools in Austria, from beginner to advanced, intensive courses, so I am particularly sympathetic to the cognitive load of intensive language learning. I am currently pursuing an additional MA in Teaching German as a Foreign and Second Language, which keeps me up to date with the best and most innovative methods. I see my role as a guide for your learning goals and preferences, and I am particularly skilled at tailoring my language to your needs and level. This allows us to communicate as much as possible in German and helps you make faster progress. Above all, lessons should be fun, engaging, and relevant. You bring to the lesson your desires, questions, or interests, and I craft a lesson that guides you through material, targeting the language skills that you need to reach an open-ended output that has you using the language confidently on your own.

Stephen is easy to talk to and makes me feel comfortable speaking German. He’d seemed that way in his video, and he’s like that in real life. For me, this is the most important quality in a teacher. He speaks perfect German, with a nice accent. And as someone who learned German himself, he has a feel for the difficulties a learner encounters in grammar and pronunciation and the explanations that make sense to a learner. I’m happy to have found my new German teacher.
