Hi, I’m Mark, a UK native English teacher and university lecturer based in Japan.
I currently teach English for Academic Purposes at Akita International University, where I help undergraduate students develop the reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills required for university-level study. I have over 10 years of teaching experience in Japan, working with learners from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.
I work best with students who want to use English more accurately, clearly, and confidently, whether for:

In our first lesson, we focus on:

English Language Teaching: Online - University of Southampton - 2022This Master's English Language Teaching course gave me the foundations to teach English classes at the university level online and in traditional in classroom classes. In this course I studied language analysis for teaching, communicative language teaching principles, English as a world language, language learning theories, discourse analysis and completed a dissertation on using apps for vocabulary learning.

Subjects included academic writing skills and theory, philosophy, social theory, geographical information systems, statistics and discourse analysis.
