Hi :) I am a certified and experienced teacher with over 11 000 lessons on italki.
italki teacher since Apr 2, 2013
Hi, I am a native speaker from South Africa. I have been teaching English online since 2012 and have experience teaching grammar, vocabulary as well as exam preparation. However, I do also enjoy conversation classes, and am curious by nature so I always have many questions to keep the conversation going.
I really enjoy learning about anything new, therefore I am willing to chat about just about any topic.
Having grown up in South Africa (a country with 11 official languages), I am familiar with both cultural and language barriers and can find a way around them.
Some of my hobbies include, hiking, cycling, gardening, doing yoga, surfing and reading.
Me as a Teacher
I structure my sessions according to my student's needs and use online material rather than following a course book. In most sessions I will provide corrections (verbally and in writing) without interrupting the flow of conversation as I think it's important to learn in a natural setting.
My lessons & teaching style
Conversation practice (helpful for improving confidence and fluency) with corrections and feedback on areas such as; grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
Materials: articles or videos.
Focus on speaking and writing which includes samples of exam questions and detailed feedback and suggestions on how to improve.
These sessions are to work on specific grammar structures such as; articles, conditionals, prepositions, verb tenses and word order.
We can work on specific vocabulary such as descriptive language, idioms or phrasal verbs.
We can get you feeling confident in business settings.

120 HOUR TEFL i-to-i 2012I have completed my 120 hour training in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
This includes modules on: Classroom management, Teaching Grammar, Cultural Sensitivity, Giving Feedback and Learning New Language.
I have had 78 lessons so far. Far away of having enough! Every each lesson brings me further. My possibilities of using grammar expand and Jessy support my path of including more words and string together interesting and useful sentences. Thank you Jessy for your great motivation and talks.

I definitely struck the right note when I decided to push up my English with Jessie. Being a supportive and attentive teacher, she always can find the effective approach to achieve your goals. For instance, I feel that my writing and speaking skills are head and shoulder above what I had before our courses. Besides advanced grammar structures and valuable feedback, Jessie may provide fascinating conversations about everyday life. So she is not only a genuine teacher, she is also an exciting person to talk to.

I took a lot of lessons (more than 100) and I had many teachers (more than 15) and I can tell that Jessie is one of my favorite teachers.
Why? Because she is very attentive, she always gives me the floor when I want to speak. She speaks but not too much (some teachers are too talkative!)And what I prefer she asks me a lot of questions.
We had many discussions about different topics (travelling, dating on line, tourism, South Africa…) and it was always interesting.
Thank you SUPER Jessie.
