I have been learning Arabic with Doha for about two and half years. She has been heroic. She has guided me so that I am now able to have arabic conversations when I visit Arabic counties and am able to write simple stories. At home I always speak to my Iraqi Barber, my Iraqi nurse, a Jordanian Doctor and the local Lebanese restaurants just in Arabic. This is such a wonderful experience. Visiting Egypt (Msr) was so great, other tourists complained about the overfriendiness of Egyptians - speaking Arabic I was able to appriciate their wonderful hospitality and join in with their banter. Spreaking Arabic raises you up from being a worried tourist to making friends with the locals. Doha has inspired me to get stuck in and learn more and more. Beyond the language I have also learned of the culture and also the problems Lebanon and the region have faced in recent years. Doha has been a very effective teacher. Above all she has given me confidence.
