Specialist in teaching Arabic as a second language
italki teacher since Jan 19, 2022
I am a native speaker of English who specialises in teaching Arabic as a second language in the way I learnt it, which includes making the language clearer and easier to understand for English speakers. I have been learning Arabic my whole life (I'm now in my late 30s) and have reached near-native fluency in Arabic, both Modern Standard Arabic and vernacular Arabic (my parents’ dialect).
وَ أظن أننا بحاجة الى تغيير جذري في مناهج و طرائق تعليم اللغة العربية حتى تناسب أكثر الناطقين بغيرها.
I am also a writer and an honours degree graduate (2:1) from a world-class UK university. My first degree was in English literature and I have obtained a post-graduate teaching degree, too.
Me as a Teacher
I’m a qualified teacher with professional school experience. I have experience of teaching both children and adults and know how to make my lessons engaging and fun: I use songs and give children plenty of reward and praise. I am smiley and have a relaxed approach to teaching. My foremost aim is to instil confidence and a sense of achievement in my students.
My lessons & teaching style
I am innovative and creative in my teaching style, going with whatever works and achieves results. I like designing structured courses, long-term plans and learning milestones to help you see your achievements clearly. Some of my B1-C1 Arabic milestones include:
1. Reading Arabic with vowel signs and some comprehension
2. Listening to the news with more than 60% comprehension
3. Confidently conversing with native speakers
4. Reading without vowel signs and more than 60% comprehension
