Hello! My name is Charles Bishop, but I am known to most people as Colton. I was born in the United States of America in Athens, Georgia, and grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. I graduated from college in the States in May of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry from Carolina University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In February of that same year I earned a 120-hour TEFL/TESOL/TESL teaching certification through Oxford Seminars, and decided to put that to use professionally by moving to Bogotá, Colombia in February of 2021 to teach for a local Business English Academy. I have now been teaching at the same academy for nearly two years and am living in Medellin, Colombia.
Me as a Teacher
I believe that students should learn through engaging, hands-on, communicative lessons. Research shows that experiential learning helps students retain knowledge for longer periods of time and express that knowledge more fluently. This helps them to move beyond their procedural understanding of the content to develop a conceptual understanding as well. I also firmly believe that in today’s society it is imperative that students develop a greater global awareness through their classroom instruction. By learning about other cultures, practices, and beliefs/values, students will be able to relate to diverse populations more appropriately.
My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are extremely communicative and conversationally focused, all the way from levels A1-C2. However, every crucial English language skill will be practiced, including:
🚨pronunciation
🚨listening
🚨speaking
🚨reading
🚨writing
My main objective is to help you reach a place where you are comfortably able to hear and comprehend the English language in addition to effectively communicating with the English language.

The class with Colton is amazing! He lets us speak freely and then gives us his feedback, which I really appreciate. I really like his corrections.

I find Colton's teaching style to be exceptionally flexible and accommodating. He creates a comfortable and effective learning environment. His willingness to explore different perspectives enriches the learning experience and makes his lessons engaging and thought-provoking. I also appreciate Colton's clear, pleasant American accent. Listening to him is a pleasure, as his articulation and tone create a conducive atmosphere for learning. He encourages me to actively participate by asking questions, sharing thoughts, and engaging in discussions. Colton uses visual aids, multimedia, and engaging materials.
