Sorcha

I have had three lessons, and I can say with certainty that Sarah is an excellent teacher of Irish. Off the bat, she creates a comfortable environment. She also demonstrates that’s she’s invested in helping you along the learning journey. That’s really underrated, but important - especially since the classes are remote. I’m starting close to square one, and her approach is meant to arm me to the hilt with words and phrases that I will need to become conversant as soon as possible. She has developed tons of material, but it never feels like I’m on some kind of student assembly line, because she always goes at my pace and she always tailors the material to me. I intend to continue lessons indefinitely on a weekly basis with Sarah, and I recommend that you do as well.

I really enjoy every lesson I have with Sorcha, especially the conversations as they bring together the other elements of my studies in a very real way. Each conversation is a natural, free-flowing chat between us although cleverly directed and guided by Sorcha. She clearly listens intently and uses probing questions to confirm my understanding or gives very helpful real-world guidance. I have now had more than 80 separate lessons with Sorcha and would confidently recommend her to any aspiring student.

I always enjoy our lessons and conversations as they cover the essentials of the target language in everyday situations. What I like most is that our conversations are never pre-planned and thus are natural, challenging and relevant. Sorcha guides these conversations exceptionally well allowing me the space to develop my ability to communicate and expand my vocabulary.

Sorcha is a friendly , knowledgeable and encouraging teacher. As an adult learner , one of my biggest issues is with actually speaking the Irish that I do have . Sorcha politely prompts me to go back to Gaeilge when I slip back into using English. When I make mistakes , Sorcha will gently inform me of the correct structure that I should have used , without making me feel like a fool. It’s a skill that not all teachers have and along with simple , constructive lesson plans and some homework , makes Sorcha a great choice no matter what level your Irish is at. I’d recommend Sorcha as a teacher and I’m sure she’ll help you with your language journey , on top of that you’ll have met a genuinely nice person , it’s a win win really !

Sorcha is a highly capable teacher who fully involves herself into the lessons and conversations which we have. She has a very keen eye for detail and encourages the student to push themselves enough to progress. I have really noticed the vast improvement in my Gaeilge skills over the >75 lessons we have had together and my confidence in speaking in the new language has grown. Each lesson builds on the last in a clear, logical, and methodical way with conversations in the target language developing naturally over the weeks.
