My name is Reb Noyekh (or Noah Barrera in goyish). I'm a career Yiddishist and language enthusiast, currently teaching at the YIVO-Center for Jewish Research. I love the language and culture of Yiddish and am passionate about passing it on to the next generation! For me, the best teacher is a life-long student. I'm currently learning Spanish and Hebrew. I've also been learning the piano! I'm also meshuggah about traveling and meeting new people! The farthest place I've been to is Australia where I met all sorts of Yiddish speakers! We're everywhere! And I held a koala and pet a dingo! They're so cute.Me as a Teacher
I'm fun and relaxed, as well as very enthusiastic and passionate! I love to make students laugh with my Yiddish antics. I'm determined for my students to succeed! I love having conversations about all sorts of topics! I love teaching all ages. My students have ranged from 11 to 92!My lessons & teaching style
I stress the importance of conversation. I speak mostly in Yiddish and use English only when necessary and requested. I teach grammar thoroughly and clearly. Shkoyekh R' Noyekh! I basically speak Yiddish (c1) and I could tell that Reb Noyekh is fluent and a grammar expert.
He was able to switch seamlessly from conversation to grammar lesson and back again. Very understanding, not patronizing at all. Highly recommend

Reb Noyekh is patient, knowledgeable, and perhaps most importantly, has an infectious enthusiasm for all things Yiddish. He listened to my goals (reading focused) and adapted his teaching style to meet them. I picked an ambitious text, but he has been tremendously patient and encouraging-- I'm starting to think I might just be able to grasp it with his help. Thank you, Reb Noyekh!
