I'm a Spanish and ESL teacher from southwestern Oklahoma in the United States. I acquired my master's degree in a program conducted entirely in Spanish, which is my second language, so I am intimately familiar with the challenge of acquiring bilingual skills in one's second language, even on the academic level. I also have thousands of hours of interpreting experience (mainly English to Spanish).
I have taught for over 25 years on the high school level, plus I have taught ESL in a community college adult education program, and I have taught ESL for the past three years through an online format.Me as a Teacher
I am a personable, hands-on teacher, and I connect with my students using a variety of styles, according to my students' individual needs. I use a conversational approach and am very good at breaking down complex concepts to make them easily accessible. My lessons & teaching style
While I am always willing to bring lessons and come prepared with exercises, I prefer to let lessons over specific grammatical or vocabulary-related themes arise naturally from conversations. I like to bring up random topics of discussion, discuss them in English, then go back and cover what I have heard, providing help with grammar, pronunciation, and natural ways of saying things in a native-sounding fashion.
For some of my lessons (when it is beneficial), I use the Off2Class platform as well as articles from bilingual news sources to provide practice materials, and I often simply create my own materials and share them with my students.My teaching material
