Born in Athens and currently living in Greece, I teach both ancient (Attic) Greek and modern Greek. Fluent in French and in German, I have some basic knowledge of Russian and Spanish; and I'm a beginner in Mandarin Chinese. I've got literary degrees from Harvard (where I received a BA and a distinction for translation into Attic Greek) and from the Sorbonne Nouvelle (where I received an MA in translation). I also have a Master of Arts degree in Economics from San Francisco State University and a PhD in philosophy from Université Paris 8. I worked many years as an English translator for the United Nations system. Language teaching I thoroughly enjoy and I have considerable experience in it. I am interested in teaching persons committed to mastering Greek - to varying degrees of course, but on a solid basis. (If you only seek to acquire some Greek expressions for tourist travel, that is wonderful, and I wholeheartedly wish you a very good time - but I am not your man.) NB: I teach Ancient Greek with the international, Erasmian pronunciation or, if the student prefers, according to the current Greek phonation. Grammatical understanding and mastering actual usage will be pursued with a view to textual and literary analysis and discussion of the Attic Greek, koine and biblical Greek texts of interest to the student. My daughter is 14 and really appreciates Iordanis because he doesn't treat her like a child and takes her seriously as a serious language student. She loves her classes and comes out of them excited and motivated to learn more. She especially loves how he brings etymology into the lessons. He is an excellent teacher.
