Shalom everyone! My name is Dana Shem-Ur. I am a passionate Hebrew teacher, a novelist (author of "Where I Am", New Vessel Press, 2023), a fiction translator, and a Ph.D. candidate in the history department at Tel Aviv University. I also hold a master's degree in contemporary philosophy from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

I am an autodidact polyglot. In the past decade, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to travel abroad and learn six foreign languages in a short period of time: Chinese, Russian, German, Italian, and French. During this time, I developed a unique learning method that I share with my wonderful students. For the past five years, I have been teaching Hebrew to people of all ages, from beginners to advanced students who want to delve into Israeli novels together.My lessons & teaching style
As a former actress, I use learning methods inspired by theater techniques to help my students memorize new vocabulary and speak Hebrew with confidence and joy. I use lyrics, pictures, and stories (among other things) as learning materials, and I strive to keep my lessons as interactive as possible. If you are looking to learn Hebrew, or even improve that which you already know, look no further than the help of Dana. Take it from me -- I started with not a clue to the language, yet Dana made our sessions together engaging and fun. She does not waste your time and her help does not end when our sessions do. Believe me, she is a great teacher and a great investment.

Dana is a fabulous teacher. She is a writer and scholar who has given me many valuable insights. Although I am a beginner, she has taught me much about the Bible. The poetry and the word meanings will surprise you when you read it with Dana in the original language.
