Hi everyone, my name is Jarred, and I teach Ancient Greek online using a communicative (direct) approach focused on reading fluency.
Instead of relying solely on translation and memorization, my lessons help students use and and understand Ancient Greek through guided reading, writing, listening, and speaking practice, so that you can read the original authors in their own words naturally and enjoyably over time.
I have several years of experience teaching Ancient Greek to adult learners online, and I am deeply passionate about the language itself and about helping students reach the point where they can confidently read the authors they desire to read, such as Plato, Plutarch, or the NewMe as a Teacher
I am a patient and attentive teacher who cares deeply about my students’ progress and understanding of Ancient Greek. Each lesson is tailored to the individual student’s level, goals, and pace, ensuring steady progress without unnecessary pressure.
I aim to create a supportive and enjoyable learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually building confidence as readers of the language. My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are interactive, engaging, and carefully structured to help students make real progress in Ancient Greek. Rather than relying on constant translation, I use visual materials, guided reading, and spoken interaction to build direct understanding of the language.
Students actively use Ancient Greek in each lesson, associating vocabulary with images, composing sentences, and speaking at a comfortable level, while also reading extensively, starting with simple texts and moving toward original authors.
This method develops both grammatical sensitivity and reading fluency, allowing students to approach Ancient Greek texts with greater confidence and independence.My teaching material
