Χαῖρε, ξένε, παρ᾽ἄμμι φιλήσεαι (Hello, stranger, you are welcome here!), says Telemachus to a disguised Athena in Book 1 of Homer’s Oydssey. It is a warm and fitting greeting for those beginning their journey into the world of Ancient Greek literature. In the same spirit, I welcome you to our First Greek Course class, where we will follow a carefully designed curriculum in order to thoughtfully and joyfully engage with the Ancient Greeks in their own language.
I am very passionate about the Ancient Greek language and its authors, and some may say equally passionate about helping others along in their journey to reading the authors they want to read.Me as a Teacher
I am a very patient teacher, who cares very much for my students' progress and understanding of the language. My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are highly interactive and fun while also being rigorous and organized. I love utilizing engaging powerpoints to serve as a visual aid for using the language. We'll associate vocabulary with images, compose sentences, and speaking in Ancient Greek. We will also do lots of reading in the language, beginning with simple sentences. This is to help us understand the grammatical nuances utilized by the authors while also increasing our reading fluency.My teaching material
