Giulia

Giulia recently helped me study for the oral and metalinguistic parts of the CILS (C2) exam, and her work was invaluable. Through a vast array of exercises focusing on both parts of the test that I needed to pass, Giulia was critical in getting me as well-prepared for the test as I could be. She has a science-based background and her lessons reflect the structure associated with that background. Equally as important, Giulia served as a true cheerleader in my efforts to pass the exam. I definitely appreciated her investment in both the process of instructing me and the results that I hoped to obtain…indeed, on about two days’ notice, Giulia agreed to have an impromptu lesson the morning of the test to help me feel more at ease! That type of dedication definitely goes beyond the norm, and I am thankful for Giulia’s didactic and “emotional” support. While I won’t know the results of the exam for several months, I can assure you that if I pass, Giulia will get a lot of the credit!

Great lesson with Giulia! We learned the vocabulary about family members. We also learned about reflexive verbs and did a listening exercise. Giulia noticed a mistake I was making with personal pronouns and reviewed the rules so that I understood, which was very helpful!

Second lesson with Giulia, and I feel like my Italian is leveling up. She naturally uses sentence structures and vocab just outside my comfort zone, so I’m challenged without feeling lost—it’s the perfect balance.

I strongly recommend Giulia for thoughtful, targeted lessons and test prep. I've had several tutors on italki for several languages. Generally, I find the most affordable teachers for informal speaking practice. This time, practicing for an Italian CILS exam, I was willing to pay a little more for more structured prep - Giulia's enthusiasm and professionalism justify that higher price point and then some. She takes organized notes, gives contextual feedback, and has a whole toolbox of methods to apply based on your specific goals. For personalized tutoring, you can't go wrong with Giulia.

Great lesson with Giulia! We started with some small talk. After that, Giulia had me describe an episode of "Elisa True Crime" that I saw. Next, we did a refresh because Giulia noticed that I had difficulty remembering how to use the conditional. Giulia is really good at seeing where my trouble spots are and helping me address them!

Great lesson with Giulia! We had some conversation and also practiced using the imperfect and subjunctive. Giulia had a role-play scenario put together so that we could practice. It was a fun exercise. When I use English, Giulia often says "you know how to say this in Italian", which is a good confidence booster!
