Kon’nichiwa! I’m Kyoko, your guide to practical Japanese language and culture! Born near Tokyo, I blend authentic Japanese insights with international perspectives. With 20 years in the UK and a background in American/European Studies and Japanese Culture, I help learners understand both language and cultural nuances. In my lessons, you will see slides filled with illustrations. You will also have a lot of opportunities to use Japanese in practical, everyday situations.
If you are a total beginner, I am happy to teach Hiragana & Katakana from scratch, step by step. Then, we will work through “Minna no Nihongo” to increase your confidence and ability.
I can also provide “Survival Japanese for Travel” (usually 3-4 lessons), which will enrich your visit to Japan even more.
For those at an Intermediate level or above, “Let's chat in Japanese” and “Let’s read the Bible in Japanese” are available.My teaching material

Kyoko is encouraging and helped me with the conversation. She has patience and is willing to answer questions. We now are pacticing verbs, in this case 'iku'. I do notice progression and more confidence, thanks to the way she teaches.

Today I learned a lot of new words and we practiced a conversation. We also talked about the weather in Japanese. Kyoko sensei is always prepared and ready for class and is therefore a very reliable teacher. I do appreciate that as well.

It was a fun lesson where I was shown a video about a cultural aspect and it was explained to me. I enjoyed that. We also practiced reading and conversation. I notice progression in speaking and feeling a more comfortable about it.
