I am Nemere Markó, a native speaker of Hungarian from Budapest. I have been learning languages since kindergarten. I never intended to become a 'polyglot.' I just enjoyed traveling, watching movies, and listening to music in different languages so much that it eventually got me to speak 8 languages to varying degrees. I enjoyed the process so much that eventually succeeding with languages felt like just a plus. I have been to the Polyglot Gathering recently, have spoken with lots of polyglots, and got lots of new ideas on how to teach languages. I think I could help a lot of people to succeed as well with languages. I think of myself as less of a teacher and more like a guide. Not because a 'guide' has a different purpose, but because this word, for me, describes the role that I play better. The way I learned languages is that I have listened to a lot of people giving advice on how to learn a language. But at the end of the day, it was me who took the courage and learned the language by myself. When people think of a teacher, they think that a person will feed them the knowledge. When they hear 'guide' or 'tutor', they think of someone who will show them how they can go out and absorb the knowledge. It is more effective, and does not only teach the given language, but it shows how to learn any language.
