I’m a native Japanese tutor with 14 years of teaching experience! 💁‍♀ I was born and raised in Tokyo, and I’ve also lived in Sendai and Nagoya. Now I live on the West Coast of the U.S. I like animals, photography, health, food, sewing, YouTube, Netflix, video games, and riding e-scooters. I tutored at a community college in the U.S. for 8 years. I also assisted in a Japanese class and led a conversation group. Since the pandemic, I’ve taught Japanese privately to learners in their 20s to 70s. Helping Japanese classes in the U.S. led me to become a tutor. Seeing students work hard inspired me to support them using my strengths. Many of my students continue with me for months or years. I create relaxed, supportive lessons that are easy to continue. In my lessons, I focus on “level + 1” content that fits each student. Not too easy, not too hard — just the right challenge. My motto is fun and practical! Mistakes are welcome. I really enjoyed my first lesson with Mako. She explained things, guided the conversation, and asked questions to help me practice speaking. She also gave me two homework tasks related to my interests and daily life: explaining how to make bread and taking the Shinkansen. I’m looking forward to learning more with her!
