Ancient Greek Professional Tutor, Master Homer, Plato & Koine Greek, Learn Ancient Greek with soul Hello! My name is Alexandros, and I’m a professional, passionate, and experienced teacher of Ancient Greek, specializing in Ancient Greek Literature. I’ve been teaching for years, and I strive to make learning a meaningful, personal, and enjoyable experience. I am known for being supportive, adaptable, and deeply engaged with my students. I tailor every session to your strengths, weaknesses, and learning style, fostering critical thinking rather than rote memorization. I offer continuous feedback outside class and work closely with you to refine your goals. What makes my lessons truly special is the bridge I build between language and culture. While I teach all levels of Ancient Greek, I offer three specialized tracks that I am particularly passionate about: • Homeric Greek: Dive into the world of the heroes of the Iliad and Odyssey. • Platonic Greek: Explore the elegance of Attic prose and the philosophical depth of Socrates. • Koine Greek: Read the New Testament and Hellenistic texts in their original historical context. Each 60-minute lesson follows a clear, engaging structure: • Introduction (10 mins): Review and goal-setting. • Main segment (40 mins): Concise theory, followed by plenty of practice through exercises and translation —always adapted to your chosen author or period. • Wrap-up (10 mins): clarification, and summary. I keep lessons lively and effective. I will help you feel confident and curious about the journey ahead.

In this lecture we learnt grammar from textbook, corrected exercises from textbook as well as Alexandros's, and corrected my translation of a paragraph written by Xenophon. We learnt the rule of moving accents (not in textbook so far) and choosing middle/passive voices based on context. Alexandros corrected word by word of my translation which I think is super helpful because when it comes to practicing with translation, it's important to know what each word means exactly, and where each word in the translation comes from. (meanings of Ancient Greek words often depend heavily on context) It also feels great to see the grammar and conjugations we learnt appear again in real historical text. Alexandros also kindly let me practice pronunciation; from which I benefit since online sources of audios in Ancient Greek is very scarce. As usual, I came out of classroom with lots of notes taken :)

This is an another fantastic lesson. Although I haven't had classes for some weeks, Alexandros gave me a recap and it feels good to remember some grammar. Every time I come out of the classroom with tons of notes, haha

I've had a few lessons with Alexandros now and I've enjoyed them immensely! He’s an experienced teacher and is willing to adapt to my learning style and goals which I really appreciate. I also love how he integrates history into each lesson which really allows me to engage at a deeper level with the Ancient Greek language. Furthermore, he’s incredibly encouraging while allowing you to improve through feedback. I definitely recommend his lessons!

This has been a fantastic first lesson! I am a complete beginner in Ancient Greek and have decided it would be fun to start to learn this language during summer, and I had a pleasure to learn from Alexandros! He provided me with very detailed learning plans, and also sent me course materials before the class for me to do the preview. Alexandros entered the classroom quite early so my first lesson actually went several minutes longer than scheduled. The lesson started with Alexandros introducing me briefly the history of Ancient Greek language, and we went through pronunciations of the alphabet, as well as pronouncing rules such as diphthongs, breathings...later we went on to practice reading a fable. Alexandros is extremely patient and gives instant feedback while I tried to pronounce it, and I find this method useful to quickly familiarize myself with the pronunciation rule. I have enjoyed a great deal and am looking forward to more lessons!

Today’s lesson was incredibly interesting and well-structured. We started by correcting my homework on diphthongs and consonant clusters; Alexandros clarified every doubt, integrating the corrections with fascinating insights that made everything stick. We worked through exercises 3-6 of Chapter 1 (Ελληνικά Α΄). We also revisited the first three dialogues to clarify vocabulary and practiced reading with Exercise 7 (page 17). A highlight was the introduction to Greek accents and monosyllables, specifically the exceptions like 'πού vs που' and 'πώς vs πως'—very helpful! We even took a moment to test my Greek keyboard setup. We moved on to listening exercises and vocabulary building with Dialogues 4 and 5 (page 19). Finally, we introduced the verb 'to be' with personal pronouns, seeing how they function in real dialogue, and touched briefly on cardinal numbers 0-10. Alexandros is an excellent teacher: he keeps the pace engaging and is always encouraging.I highly recommend. Ευχαριστώ.Marco
