Hi! I'm Maryann, from Brittany, France, and I currently live in Normandy. I studied English, German, and Journalism at university. I worked for two years in a local newspaper, and during that time, I also obtained a DU (Diplôme d'université) in FLE (French as a Foreign Language). This September, I started a Master’s degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language to develop my knowledge and skills in order to become a professional French teacher.
I’m passionate about languages and literature (I enjoy reading different genres), and I love travelling and learning about different cultures. I also enjoy helping people discover the French language and culture.Me as a Teacher
As a teacher, I’m patient, friendly and adaptable. My own experience as a learner helps me be understanding and aware of the difficulties you may face. I always create a safe and encouraging atmosphere. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and confident speaking French. Learning a new language should be fun and making mistakes is a natural part of the process!
In my previous French teaching experiences, I created personalised materials and guided students through grammar, conversation practice and real-life language situations. These experiences helped me build a structured and motivating teaching method. My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are adapted to your level and your objectives. I pay close attention to what you need, what you enjoy, and what you want to improve.
I focus on helping you communicate naturally and confidently, especially through speaking practice and real-life situations. Grammar is important, but not the centre of the lesson : I introduce it when it helps you speak and understand better.
I mostly work with authentic materials such as news articles, podcasts, short videos or extracts from books, but also adapted resources when they’re more suitable. Learning about French culture and traditions is also an important part of my method.My teaching material

2025 - Current
French teacherI have taught French in person through Superprof, with the possibility of online lessons. I help students with grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation, always adapting my approach to their level and personal goals. For example, I gave French lessons to an adult living in France who wanted to improve her communication skills to feel more confident at work.

Bachelor’s - Applied Modern Languages - English and GermanDuring this bachelor’s degree, I strengthened my skills in English and German, and was introduced to various business-related subjects, including marketing, general economics, and business law.
2018 - 2019
Bachelor’s - Erasmus YearI studied for one year at the University of Mannheim. This Erasmus exchange allowed me to improve my English and German, gain intercultural experience, and broaden my academic perspective.
2024 - 2025
Bachelor’s - French as a Foreign LanguageThis one-year diploma (Diplôme d'université) introduced me to the theory and practice of teaching French as a foreign language, preparing me for the Master's degree.
2021 - 2023
Master's - JournalismThis Master's degree provided me with advanced knowledge in reporting, writing, and media production, and helped me develop strong analytical and communication skills.
2025 - Current
Master's - French as a Foreign LanguageThis master's degree covers both the theory and practice of teaching French. I learn how to create lesson plans, teach vocabulary and grammar, practise speaking and writing, and adapt my lessons to the learners’ profiles and native languages. The program also includes courses on art, digital tools, and phonetics, providing a well-rounded approach to teaching.

Je tiens à remercier ma tutrice pour son écoute attentive et les exemples clairs et pertinents fournis. Malgré la difficulté de la correction de la prononciation, son calme et sa patience sont très appréciés. Je suis à l'air de corriger mon articulation progressivement.

Maryann is so friendly and pleasant to talk to. For our first class, we discussed a topic I had suggested to her in advance. I appreciated her suggestions of better, richer vocabulary to express my ideas, her ability to share her point of view in a clear and comprehensible manner, all while maintaining a very interesting conversation about working mothers. Maryann was very encouraging, she corrected me in a helpful way, kept the conversation going and encouraged me to speak. We got cut off by Italki before we had a chance to discuss the next lesson but I really enjoyed this one. Merci beaucoup Maryann!
