About Me
italki teacher since Mar 27, 2017InterestsReadingWritingArtHistoryFilms & TV Series
Let's start with the obvious: there are not a lot of iTalki teachers with Doctorates in Philosophy. Consider me a niche tutor for niche students - like you - looking for something more than merely "English Lessons." My courses are all "Thinking Lessons," which happen to be in English. I'm a clear, logical, and original thinker, with extensive experience as an academic writer and years of interest in creative writing. In my 20 years of postsecondary training, I've received a BA in Linguistics, two MAs, and a PhD, I've studied 6 languages, and I've taught university-level courses from Philosophy to Research Writing to students from around the world.Me as a Teacher
As a philosopher, it is my job to ask interesting questions, so I am an ideal teacher for those who are bored of the basic "how is the weather?" conversations. You're already smart in your native language--contact me if you want to learn to share your great ideas in English, articulate complex points of view in speech, or work on developing your clarity through writing. As for content, we can think through questions about art or science or religion or history, or anything else that interests you! I have great collections of texts for us to work with, both original philosophical texts as well as general-reading articles that present current issues in a creative and approachable way.My lessons & teaching style
My courses focus not just on English skills, but critical thinking skills that lay a foundation for higher level work in almost any profession or specialization. By learning to read and analyze texts with me, you can sharpen your own clarity of expression. By discussing your ideas, you can deepen your ability to express your thinking in English. By working on your writing, you can improve your nuance of style, whether through blogs, academic articles, dissertations, or novels. Finally, I am an academic--a great resource if you want to sharpen, organize, or rework personal statements, grant statements, or book proposals. With my help, you will make a strong and memorable first impression!Certificates

Stephanie is exceptional. As philosophy can sometimes feel a bit unnavigable and heavy for me. She reinvigorated my passion for philosophy by helping me to dissect my university readings such as Hegel, Dawkins and many more. She's instrumental in making me a better reader as well as a more demanding reader and consequently, it helped me to achieve greater clarity with my thoughts and hence more able to elucidate my thought process which of paramount importance to me. Thank you Dr. Stephanie.

Dr. Stephanie is one of the best instructors I had the luck to encounter in my life. I feel that her teaching style is perfectly adjusted to the intermediate/advanced student. Most people would agree that language learning is faster when the student is interested in the subject being discussed. Her classes most certainly provide all that, as they are intellectually challenging and extremely fun. Also, in spite of our love for language learning itself, I would risk saying that it is a medium, a tool for achieving other goals. In that sense, if you have high goals and wish to improve your English, general culture and reasoning skills, I can’t recommend enough that you give her classes a try.
