Hi, I’m Chihiro—a native Japanese speaker from Nagasaki, now living in Australia since 2016. I used to work as a nurse because I’ve always loved helping people. Now, I live with my husband and our furry babies, enjoying a peaceful life surrounded by nature. I love animals, walking in the outdoors, and trying new things. In fact, I’m currently learning Mandarin just for fun and to better understand Chinese culture. I’d love to explore even more languages in the future! I’m a native Japanese speaker from Nagasaki, now living in Australia. I’ve taught Japanese online for over 600 hours, supporting learners of beginner levels with personalized, friendly lessons. My teaching goes beyond grammar—I help you understand culture, manners, and real-life expressions that make Japanese truly meaningful. Whether you’re a complete beginner or preparing for JLPT, I’ll guide you step by step. Students often describe me as patient, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I personalize each lesson to match your pace and goals, so you can learn comfortably and confidently.

My lessons & teaching style

My lesson is based on the textbook which is called Minna no Nihongo. Each lesson is designed to be relaxed, supportive, and effective. You’ll receive materials in advance (vocab sheets, worksheets, etc.), and we’ll begin by reviewing what you learned last time. Then we’ll check new vocabulary, explore grammar with visual slides, and practice speaking in realistic, everyday situations. Lessons can be explained in English if needed, and kanji, listening, and reading support is available—especially helpful for JLPT prep! If you prefer a fast-paced or demanding style, my lessons may not be ideal—but if you enjoy thoughtful conversation and gentle growth, I’d be happy to support your journey.

Chihiro is very patient and is great with conversation. I'm new to using italki so I felt very nervous going into my first lesson. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. Even though I made plenty of mistakes, I felt more confident in myself by the end of the lesson!

I am only one lesson in with Chihiro-sensei and I really enjoyed it. I am definitely the anxious type when it comes to these things, and her bright and encouraging personality took that away as soon as the lesson began. She is very thorough when it comes to gauging your level of Japanese and then deciding where is best to go from there. I will definitely taking more lessons with her and can’t wait to see where my Japanese goes with her teaching.

As an older (61yrs) language learner Chihiro has been great. She has a relaxed casual style that puts my output anxiousness at ease. She guides me and explains grammar and vocabulary well and keeps me stretching to understand more of the language. When I get a new grammar concept or new vocab correct she is truly happy which shows her passion to teach and care for her students. I can’t wait for my next Japan trip to put what she has helped me learn into my daily conversations.

I find that the lessons with Chihiro-san are very relaxed and she gives enough time to practice.I also like the conversational style and the relaxed atmosphere. She also gives a lot of practice material, so for me as a visual learner pretty good. : )
