About Me
italki teacher since Oct 13, 2025InterestsMusicFilms & TV SeriesReadingSports & FitnessFood
I was born to an Austrian mother and a Swiss father. Both cultures are running through my veins due to my mother and also my large family in Austria. I am an actor and a language teacher. My acting background helps me engage the students. In my free time, I love playing roll hockey here in Mar Vista. While showing off my hockey skills, I wear the jersey of my favorite hockey team from Geneva. I'm a bookworm.I read German and English books. My wife and I love exploring new restaurants around town.Me as a Teacher
I bring in a high energy and enthusiasm about my language and my culture. I get excited introducing my students to meals, music, film, places, etc. from my culture. They automatically get excited too. This leads to them learning the language much faster. Former students describe me as fun, professional, passioned, and patient. One student, for instance, loved that I sang the ABC Song from my childhood with them together in class. It helped the student remember the letters and their sound a lot faster. I also make students move. As a vocabulary exercise, I had them bring me the object we've been learning: "Zeig mir einen Stift!" (Student gets a pen) Physicalization helps memorization. My lessons & teaching style
I try to teach mostly in a communicative style. (Krashin) For example, I expose the student to lots of German material (input) such as meaningful texts or videos about relevant topics or topics of interest. These texts might have some grammar topics embedded in it. While the student tries to solve the given problem by negotiating for meaning (output), he at the same time learns some grammar.
Examples: Showing the student a page with the hours of a German supermarket. I model first: Am Montag oeffnet der Supermarkt um 8 Uhr am Morgen. Question to student: Wann oeffnet der Supermarkt am Samstag? I pick a popular German song. We listen to it. Sing it. And then find out what they sing about. My teaching material
