🏅️CTCSOL Certified Teacher ✅Beginner-friendly⬆️Take your Mandarin fluency to the next level! Hello, I'm Qi, a native Chinese speaker from Sichuan, and a certified Chinese teacher. Over the past 3 years, I’ve taught more than 1000 lessons, helped students from all over the world. Still struggling with Chinese tones and characters? I'm here to help. First tone sounds like the "So" in Do Re Mi Fa So, it’s high and flat. 🎵 Second tone rises, like when you say "What?" 🤔 Third tone goes down, then up again, like a surprised "Really??" 😲 Fourth tone is sharp and falling, just like saying "No!" firmly. ❌ Now, about Chinese characters. Some characters actually look like the things they represent. These are called pictographs. For example: 木 (mù) is tree 目 (mù) is eye Most pictographs can also be used as radicals in other characters. For instance, 木 (tree) appears in characters related to wood or plants: 林 (lín —forest), tree plus tree, many trees, so forest 桥 (qiáo — bridge), made of wood 桃 (táo — peach), grow on trees There's also another type: phonetic-semantic characters. In these, one part hints at the meaning, and the other part hints at the pronunciation. Take 桃 (táo) as an example: 木 (tree/plants) → 桃táo peach 辶 (walk/movement) → 逃táo to escape 扌(hand) → 挑tiāo to pick 足 (foot ) → 跳tiào to jump 目 (eye) → 眺tiào to look into the distance See the pattern? The radical tells you what the word is about, and the other part gives you a clue to the pronunciation. Ready to finally make tones and characters make sense? Let's start your first lesson!

I had my first lesson with Qi and I absolutely loved how meticulous and patient she was. She started with checking what my level in Chinese was and I highly appreciate her clear, not too slow, not too quick dialogue because I was able to understand everything. I was also asked about the method of learning and how long I wish to spend on each stage which allowed me to find a plan that suits me and one I enjoy. Overall, a great start and I'm very excited to keep learning Chinese with Qi.
