I really enjoy reading, writing, science and history. I also have a background in therapy, and I read Tarot cards and am learning computer programming. And I eat a lot of kale! It's great.
I taught myself French to C2 level using pretty much only the Pimselur tapes, the movie Amélie (for my accent), Netflix, and by reading classic French literature in both French and English, along with news articles in French and English. My C1 level Spanish I learned at cooking school in Guatemala, with some tutoring, the Pimsleur tapes, and in conversation.
I learned languages because I was curious about what journeys that might take me on, and who I might meet. I really enjoy talking with people!Me as a Teacher
My main focus is on keeping students engaged by holding a natural and flowing conversation at their level.
I taught Spanish and French to children ages 2 - 9 at a French and Spanish immersion daycare and after school program, and have also provided computer tutorials. I am good at providing clear and direct instructions! I also am very supportive and patient.
I enjoy talking with people, and I am always happy to see them achieving their goals when I have helped them. My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are rooted in the idea that you learn languages through conversation. So I try to make the conversation itself as engaging as possible. With less experienced learners, I try to help them use everything they know, and will address and write down grammar and vocabulary issues as they arise.
With more experienced learners, I often find the conversation is more important: they just need to use what they know, and feel comfortable with it.
So I focus on covering a wide variety of topics relevant to my students, with the goal of having a natural form of interest drive the lesson. I want students to stay engaged and keep learning while enjoying themselves, which makes learning easiest.My teaching material

Other - UndergraduateI began my general studies, but realized how important hands-on learning was in order for me to explore all the subjects I really cared about. So I gathered good materials from the library and the internet, and traveled to Mexico and Guatemala, went to cooking school, and taught myself all the things I wanted to know.

I really enjoyed my lessons with Andrew. We discussed a wide range of topics, and the conversations felt very natural, almost like talking with a friend.
