Marcelo is simply the best. He is a great conversationalist and an immensely curious person. He always seeks to better understand the world and the various cultures that inhabit it and this leads to enjoyable discussions that will expand your knowledge of Portuguese as well as Brazilian culture.

Marcelo has been a really great teacher for me to learn Portuguese! I started learning Portuguese by taking 12 weeks of in-person, small group classes (24 hours total). At the end of the 12 weeks, I new basic words and phrases but definitely couldn't hold a conversation. When my original teacher moved back to Brazil, I found Marcelo on Italki 6 months ago. Talking with Marcelo for just 1 hour a week has exponentially improved my language skills! I have had maybe 16 hours with him and I went from hardly being able to say a sentence to speaking 90% of the class in Portuguese. Marcelo is very patient and doesn't correct my every mistake which has made me feel more confident. After the class I have a list of phrases and translations to study. I also like that he is very flexible in case I need to reschedule. Our classes feel more like two friends catching up and sharing stories than an actual lesson! Obrigada Marcelo!

Marcelo is a great tutor. I enjoy our lessons, because Marcelo is very knowledgeable and open-minded and we can discuss any topics and he is always positive and has good vibes. At the same time, Marcelo is very organized, accurate and committed. Marcelo gives material that is relevant to my objectives and each time I’m very much looking forward to our next lesson.
