Hi! I’m Marcelo Veloso, a certified Portuguese teacher from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’ve been teaching Portuguese since 2010 and have over 15 years of experience with language learning and teaching.
I’m passionate about languages and speak five languages fluently: Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French. Because I’ve learned multiple languages myself, I understand the challenges students face and know how to make the learning process clear, practical, and effective.

Formal Class Structure:
The first part of the class focuses on conversation practice, where we discuss topics of your interest. In the second part, we analyze and discuss an online article that I provide. The final part is dedicated to grammar practice and personalized error correction.

Marcelo has been a really great teacher for me to learn Portuguese! I started learning Portuguese by taking 12 weeks of in-person, small group classes (24 hours total). At the end of the 12 weeks, I new basic words and phrases but definitely couldn't hold a conversation. When my original teacher moved back to Brazil, I found Marcelo on Italki 6 months ago. Talking with Marcelo for just 1 hour a week has exponentially improved my language skills! I have had maybe 16 hours with him and I went from hardly being able to say a sentence to speaking 90% of the class in Portuguese. Marcelo is very patient and doesn't correct my every mistake which has made me feel more confident. After the class I have a list of phrases and translations to study. I also like that he is very flexible in case I need to reschedule. Our classes feel more like two friends catching up and sharing stories than an actual lesson! Obrigada Marcelo!
